Hey, Shoulder Pain Warriors! 💪
We recently hosted a Facebook Live session that was all about something many of us deal with—shoulder pain. If you missed it, don’t worry! We’re breaking down everything we covered in a fun, easy-to-digest blog post. Plus, you can catch the full video at the end if you prefer to watch instead of read.
So, let’s dive in! 🏊♂️
1. Rotator Cuff Injuries: The Common Culprit
What It Is:
The rotator cuff is a group of muscles and tendons that stabilize your shoulder joint. When these get injured, it can lead to anything from a mild ache to serious pain. Whether it’s inflammation (hello, tendinitis!) or a tear, rotator cuff injuries are no joke.
How We Treat It:
At Live Well Active Therapy, we kick off the healing process with Low Intensity Laser Therapy. This high-tech tool helps reduce inflammation, so we can move on to the good stuff—like massage therapy, athletic therapy, and personalized exercises that get your shoulder back in action. 💥 Surgery? Only if absolutely necessary, and it’s never our first choice.
2. Frozen Shoulder: Slow and Steady Wins the Race
What It Is:
Also known as adhesive capsulitis, frozen shoulder is a sneaky condition that creeps up gradually, causing stiffness and pain. It’s most common among women aged 45-60, and it can be a real pain—literally.
How We Treat It:
First, we identify which stage of frozen shoulder you’re in. Then, we craft a personalized treatment plan starting with laser therapy to reduce inflammation. We follow up with manual therapy, including massage and athletic therapy, and may even use cupping or shockwave therapy. Oh, and don’t forget the stretching and exercises! Recovery can take a while, but patience pays off. 🧘♀️
3. Shoulder Impingement Syndrome: Making Space for Healing
What It Is:
Shoulder impingement happens when the rotator cuff tendons get squished as they pass through the shoulder joint, leading to—you guessed it—pain and inflammation.
How We Treat It:
Rest is crucial, and so is avoiding activities that make the pain worse. We use laser therapy to calm the inflammation, followed by athletic therapy to improve your shoulder’s flexibility and strength. If needed, corticosteroid injections might be recommended, but always in combination with therapy for the best results.
4. Arthritis: When Your Joints Need Some TLC
What It Is:
Osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis can wreak havoc on your shoulder joints, causing pain, stiffness, and reduced mobility. It’s a common issue, but it doesn’t have to slow you down.
How We Treat It:
Our approach focuses on managing pain and keeping you moving. We combine laser therapy with athletic therapy and gentle exercises to maintain your mobility. In more advanced cases, joint replacement surgery might be on the table, but we explore every non-surgical option first. 🏃♂️
5. Bursitis: When the Cushions Get Cranky
What It Is:
Bursitis occurs when the bursae—those little fluid-filled sacs that cushion your shoulder joint—become inflamed. It’s like your shoulder’s own pillows have turned against you.
How We Treat It:
Ice is nice, but laser therapy is even better! We use it to reduce inflammation and repair any tissue damage. Afterward, our Athletic Therapist will guide you through exercises designed to improve shoulder mechanics and prevent future flare-ups. 🧊➡️💡
